Children & Youth Development
Nathaniel Mission has been actively investing in the Cardinal Valley and Speigle Heights neighborhoods for more than seven years. One of the ways we achieve this is by fostering relationships with the children in the community through Esperanza Club (after-school program), one-on-one mentoring, and summer enrichment camps. In the upcoming 2023-2024 year, we will continue to offer these valuable services to the kids in our community.
Esperanza Club After-School Program
Starting after Labor Day annually, Nathaniel Mission provides an excellent chance to serve the students of Cardinal Valley Elementary School through our Esperanza Club. Every day, the students will receive a snack and have designated time for physical activity. During their session, they will allocate 20 minutes for reading, followed by focused time on grade-level academic skills. Additionally, there will be fun and informative activities such as Bible study, social-emotional learning, and topical science lessons to engage in.
Our Esperanza Club is only offered to students in 1st through 5th Grade at Cardinal Valley Elementary from Monday through Thursday from 2:30 to 5:00. This year, Esperanza Club will be hosted at Calvary Church of the Nazarene (1142 Caywood). School buses will drop them off at the end of the school day. Limited space is available!
To register, pick up a form at Nathaniel Mission (1109 Versailles Rd., Suite 400) or in the front office at Cardinal Valley Elementary (218 Mandalay Rd.) OR sign up online: Click Here

ONE-TO-ONE MENTORING
Every academic year, we pair up our volunteers with students from our Speigle Heights community with whom they can develop a long-term bond. Once a week, volunteers will visit the school during lunchtime and spend time with their buddies to establish a mentor-mentee relationship. As mentors, they aim to serve as positive role models in their students' lives.
If you have a student that lives in the Speigle Heights neighborhood or attends Harrison Elementary and would like to be paired with a mentor, contact our Children & Youth Development Coordinator at klangdoc@nathanielmission.com or 859-255-0062 x 106.
